Starry night at Yosemite by porbital Starry night at Yosemite by porbital
Yosemite Falls with stars!

This show was taken from my recent trip to hunt the horsetail firefalls. After dinner we went out around Yosemite meadows to find some spot to shoot star trails. There are so many cools spot to shoot in the valley, such as sentinel bridge, yosemite falls, tunnel view, and river bend. We don't have much time to take all shots because the moon set around midnight.

This was my very first shooting star trails. This was done in a single shot by a fisheye lens. An exposure time was about 12 min. I don't want to do it longer because of hot pixels issue (and I plan to shoot time lapse) Next time I will plan ahead to shoot multiple shots and blend by the software instead.

I have a question - when I try to shoot at night I have a hell of a time focusing in the dark! Any advice?

If your camera has live-view that will help, if not carry a bright light with you, shine it on something in the FG and use that as a base point for your focusing.

Nice! I was there this past weekend, so very sad to see that this old tree has fallen!! I loved this tree, especially with snow on it!
